Mediating Workplace Disputes Certificate Program
Participants will receive a certificate of completion in Basic Mediation and Intercultural Conflict.
Boise State University Human Resource Services and Conflict Management Services are offering mediation-training opportunities for interested Boise State University and public sector employees.
The mediation training is an intensive 44 hour course. This training session provides the first steps necessary in becoming a certified Boise State University mediator and will cover all topics essential for beginning mediators, with case examples and case practice in mediating employee disputes. This program also examines intercultural conflict, understanding one's cultural conflict management style through the Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory, and practical tactics for mediators to use in cases where cultural styles differ.
Those who wish to serve as a mediator for the BSU Alternate Dispute Resolution/Mediation ADRM Program must complete the following training requirements:
- Completion of 44-hour basic mediation training.
- Observe mediations, mock mediations, and co-mediation cases with a certified mediator.
- If you are currently a certified mediator, you must complete a four-hour training session on Intercultural Conflict Management for Mediators
Employees selected as mediators agree to provide ADRM services at no charge for BSU (and other participating State governmental agencies.) The training sessions will be held in the spring of 2006. Those selected will be expected to complete the entire training course and commit to mediating/facilitating dispute resolution meetings for Boise State University (and other participating State governmental agencies) for at least two (2) years. Individuals may be called upon a maximum of four (4) times per year, during scheduled work hours with their supervisor's approval.
To apply to be a BSU Alternate Dispute Resolution Mediator, you must complete the application/nomination form.
Intercultural Conflict Management for Mediators
This training program is intended for state employees who have already completed a comparable basic 40-hour training class in beginning mediation or who are certified mediators through the BSU Dispute Resolution Program and/or the Idaho Mediation Association. The program examines intercultural conflict, understanding one's cultural conflict management style through the Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory, and practical techniques for mediators to use in cases where cultural styles differ.
If you are making application to serve as an Alternate Dispute Resolution Mediator for Boise State University, please indicate if you've already received mediation certification or completed Mediation training on the Nomination form.
