Assistant Director, Residence Life
University Housing
Boise State University seeks an energetic, organized, and visionary individual for the position of Assistant Director for Residence Life. This position is part of the department’s senior management team for Boise State University Housing. The Assistant Director is responsible for the administration of the Residence Life Program currently housing 1500 students in residence halls and an additional 500 in campus apartments. University Housing is undergoing significant growth and expansion as part of Boise State’s development into a metropolitan research university of distinction. General areas of responsibility include program development, supervision of residence life staff, crisis intervention, and oversight of the residence hall conduct processes. Additional responsibilities include committee involvement and collaboration with the living-learning program, including five residential college programs.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for all correspondence, reporting, evaluation and record-keeping for the Residence Life program including but not limited to: event programming, student conduct, personnel and performance planning, staff evaluation, and policy documentation (University and Housing).
- Oversee and/or coordinate selection processes for staff and resident directors.
- Develop and maintain a general understanding of basic personnel management practices.
STAFF SUPERVISION AND TRAINING
- Directly supervise professional resident directors and indirectly supervise student resident/community assistants.
- Responsible for coordination and oversight of all training programs for resident/community assistants and resident directors including annual fall and spring trainings and monthly in-services.
- Effectively demonstrate aspects of a successful residence life program, such as: communication skills, giving and receiving feedback, time management, and implementation of a training and development plan.
RESIDENCE LIFE
- Serve as a secondary conduct officer, advises resident directors in sanctioning decisions, and works closely with the Director of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
- Oversee the advisory role to the University Housing Association (UHA). Provides assistance, support, and direction to the hall and apartment councils.
- Demonstrate leadership and competence in development of a diverse range of services and programs for students living on campus.
- Represent University Housing on various committees as well as present during University wide programs such as: Orientation programs (Broncoventure, TNT, Parent & Family Weekend) and Admissions preview programs (Discover Boise State and MOSAIC).
BUDGETING
- Work with senior management team in setting budget priorities for residence life operating budget.
- Develop and manage the residence life budget lines within the broader University Housing budget.
COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
- Foster successful relationships between University departments, on-campus communities, and University Housing.
- Work collaboratively with the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities to promote civility within the on-campus community and uphold the University’s Statement of Shared Values as a driving force behind successful student interaction.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Minimum:
- Masters degree in Higher Education or College Student Personnel Administration or equivalent professional experience.
- Three years, full-time residential life experience in positions with progressive levels of responsibilities at a College/University, including the following skills and knowledge:
- Experience in supervising residence hall staff with recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation.
- Awareness of student development concepts and implementation processes.
- Individual and group advising skills.
- Knowledge of the student conduct process
- Ability to handle crises situations, first responder and consultation capacity.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Student Personnel, Counseling or related field.
- Three years supervisory experience.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The Assistant Director position is a professional full-time position requiring
some evening and weekend hours. Salary is commensurate with experience. Additionally,
