McNair Scholars Program- Program Coordinator

Boise State University invites interested applicants for the position of McNair Program Coordinator, to become a part of our team to continue our quest toward becoming a Metropolitan Research University of Distinction. The McNair Program Coordinator will manage and implement activities of the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program to ensure successful achievement of goals and objectives of the project grant (funded by the U.S. Department of Education). The overall purpose is to promote the completion of students’ college education and the advancement to graduate and PhD degree attainment. The program will provide an integrated program of research and scholarly activities, academic and financial aid advisement, and graduate program counseling for first-generation, limited-income undergraduate college students and those from groups that are underrepresented in graduate programs. The program will help students acquire academic and research skills necessary to successfully enroll in and complete doctoral degree programs.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Teach McNair Program seminars designed to engage students in all aspects of the program and prepare them for graduate research and studies;
- Develop research and scholarly activities that promote a working knowledge of graduate level work expected of a doctoral candidate;
- Provide graduate program counseling, provide academic and financial aid advising at Boise State, and help students prepare financial aid packages for graduate school enrollment;
- Aid in the establishment and enhancement of mentor relationships between participants and faculty on campus;
- Help to target, interview and select candidates for the program.
At a minimum you should have:
- Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience;
- Excellent people skills with demonstrable evidence of the ability to work with individuals of varying educational, income, and cultural backgrounds;
- A minimum of 3 years college teaching experience and 1 year administrative, managerial, and/or supervisory experience with the following skills and knowledge:
- communicate effectively orally and in writing; self-start and multi-task, accept directions for immediate actions, analyze and solve problems related to program management; coordinate and accomplish tasks to completion in a timely and effective manner, and assist others in similar accomplishments; track, monitor, and report project data.
The preferred candidate will have:
- Competence in conducting seminars, educational workshops, or similar activities;
- Experience coordinating research opportunities;
- Knowledgeable in all aspects of the graduate school application process, including the acquisition of graduate school funding;
- Grant writing experience;
- Background similar to that of participants in the program.
Salary and benefits: $44,730 per year, plus an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, retirement plan, reduced tuition benefits, 24 days vacation leave and 12 days sick leave annually, plus 10 paid holidays, as well as other benefits.
