Instructional Design Specialist
Academic Technologies at Boise State University is looking for a highly qualified individual to fill our Instructional Design Specialist position. This position will be responsible for joining a team of instructional design and media production specialists to assist faculty in creating and using online tools, rich media, and presentation technology to deliver effective instruction.
Major Responsibilities:
- Consult with faculty and staff in designing and developing online instructional materials and other digital media (computer-based multimedia instructional materials)
- Work with educators to analyze needs and to determine goals, objectives, and appropriate delivery methods and media for instructional products.
- Assist faculty and staff in selecting and using online and multimedia tools and software
- Conduct seminars, demonstrations, and training workshops on web-based instruction and digital media (computer-based multimedia) instructional products and capabilities for faculty and staff, and for undergraduate and graduate classes as requested by faculty
- Provide technical assistance and support to AT clients and student technology assistants developing digital media or web-based instruction, including those using workstations in the Zone (a student digital projects studio)
- Design and develop educational websites and/or interactive CD-ROM based educational products, as appropriate, for distance education or on-site delivery.
- Conceptualize, design, plan and produce interactive media materials for faculty and staff clients; determine format, approach, content, level, and medium which most effectively meets client needs analysis and remains within budget.
- Test new multimedia technologies and evaluate educational applications
- Train clients to utilize interactive, multimedia software applications and technologies.
- Provide administrative and technical support for Blackboard course-management system as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Educational/Instructional Technology, plus one year's experience in educational/instructional technology or two year's experience in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following knowledge, skills and aptitudes are desired for the position:
- Knowledge and understanding of the instructional systems design process.
- Ability to understand and interpret educational needs and to develop effective instructional media solutions.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design.
- Knowledge of digital media production principles, methods, techniques, and standards.
- Knowledge of desktop/interactive media publishing methods, procedures, and requirements.
- Skill in the use of computers, interactive media and graphic design programs, and relevant authoring and programming languages.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Specific proficiency in the following software and media is desired for the position:
- Dreamweaver or similar web design software
- Multimedia - text, graphics, audio, and video production software such as the Adobe suite of software and tools, Macromedia, and similar software.
- Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
- CD-ROM and Internet delivery of multimedia instructional material
- Adobe Acrobat application and document preparation
- Course Management System software - specifically Blackboard administration, support & training
