Assistant Director of Student Leadership for Greek Life

This position is being created as part of the President's strategic initiative for Student Affairs and is a direct recommendation of our recent Fraternity Sorority Community Assessment visit. The Assistant Director of Student Leadership for Greek Life plays a key role in developing and implementing the University's Leadership Program specific to Greek Life. The Assistant Director works closely with other offices to ensure coordination of all aspects of the Greek Life Program including, but not limited to: the Admissions Office, University Housing, Student Activities, New Student and Family Programs, Alumni Association, Advising and Academic Enhancement, and the academic colleges and departments.
The Assistant Director will develop and manage the Greek Life component of a comprehensive leadership program. This will include developing curriculum for leadership classes, retreats and workshops, training mentors, recruiting participants, and developing tools for assessment and evaluation. The Assistant Director will be part of a team conducting leadership workshops, retreats and seminars for all student leaders, academic scholarship recipients and the general undergraduate student population. The Assistant Director is an ambassador for the University and is a key member of the leadership team in the Office of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide creative, visionary, leadership, and oversight of a growing, comprehensive Greek Life Program;
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives, policies, and procedures which contribute to and complement the University's Strategic Vision: Charting the Course;
- Enhance a fraternal community that support students' academic, personal and civic development by providing leadership and advisement in all related capacities to include advising all governing councils and honorary organizations (e.g. Order of Omega) and individual chapter officers;
- Manage a Greek Life program including training, supervising, and developing student staff, budget planning, and delivery of student-centered customer service;
- Work closely with other service offices to establish departmental goals, priorities, and outcomes and coordinate activities;
- Create positive relationships with students and their families, alumni, Inter/national Headquarters, faculty, staff and the University's larger community.
- Provide a forum for fraternity and sorority members to embrace fraternal values, scholarship, philanthropy, service, and social justice.
- Participate in the development and delivery of a comprehensive student leadership program.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to work with diverse student populations on a fast-paced, urban campus, as well as the capability to lead, coordinate and work collaboratively with all internal and external constituencies. In addition, the candidate will have the commitment and skills in assessing relevant student learning outcomes, along with excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related filed with a working knowledge of grounded student development principles.
- Two to five years, full-time, direct experience advising Fraternities/Sororities and all aspects of Greek Life Programming.
- Minimum of two years experience in co-curricular program planning and leadership development.
Salary and Benefits: The Assistant Director of Student Leadership for Greek Life is a professional full-time position. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Closing Date: Review of applications will begin in May, 2008, and will continue until finalists are identified. Applications received after that date may be considered if the position is not filled from the finalist pool. We anticipate a July 1, 2008 start date.
