Assistant/Associate Professor
Educational Technology
The Educational Technology Department at Boise State University announces
openings for TWO tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professors beginning either
January or August 2010. The department offers two master’s degrees
and three graduate certificate programs offered completely online, a blended
Ed.D. program, and an undergraduate pre-service technology course for the College
of Education. Our mission serves teachers, faculty, researchers, technologists,
and designers working in kindergarten through higher education environments.
This is a very special and unique opportunity for candidates interested
in realizing their vision. We are an evolving department with over 80%
enrollment growth in the last several years. We employ approximately
45 personnel per year, and are seeking innovative, professional self-starters
with the potential for developing specializations or research centers in emerging
fields, or enhancing existing initiatives within our department of talented
faculty. We have international expertise in K12 online teacher professional
development, as well as faculty actively researching on the topics of instructional
design in virtual worlds, data mining in web-based learning environments, the
use and integration of video in online learning, and innovative methodologies
for studying the evaluation and impact of online education. Our graduate
students are a diverse network of adult learners across the U.S. and overseas. Current
initiatives include an international partnership with National University in
Tainan, as well as a Graduate Student Association, and partnerships with iNACOL,
ISTE, AECT, and ARVEL SIG at AERA.
We are looking for change agents interested in leading team-based, progressive
technological, research, and teaching efforts within a community of highly productive
professionals. Successful candidates will demonstrate tenets of 21st century
learners: bottom-line oriented, thrive on change, see learning as fun,
understand the power of diversity when working as a team, and work on the leading
edge. Flexibility, resourcefulness, and the ability to improvise and visualize
innovative solutions and strategies are key.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in Educational Technology or related discipline.
- Experience in teaching online and face-to-face, as well as online course design experience, and evidence of scholarly achievement and potential.
- Appreciation of and experience with distance learners and distributed learning environments is required.
Desired Qualifications--strengths in two or more of the following:
- K-12 online education
- Leadership qualities and/or interests
- Evaluation research in educational technology
- Use of technology to expand global connections
- STEM-focused research
- Social networking & web 2.0 and 3.0 technologies
- New media literacies, and other emerging theoretical frameworks
- Games and simulations-based education
- Open-source technologies
- Funded grant writing experience
- HTML/web development experience
- Other emerging technology research areas
Salary and benefits: $53,000-65,000 per 9 month contract; excellent benefits package; $10,000 research start-up fund, relocation support, graduate assistant support, and opportunity for summer teaching and grant work.
