Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies
Department of Music
Boise State University invites interested applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies and Director of the Gene Harris Jazz Festival, to become a part of our team to continue our quest toward becoming a Metropolitan Research University of Distinction.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Direct the Jazz Ensemble
- Teach Jazz Improvisation
- Teach Jazz Techniques for Music Education Majors
- Produce and direct all aspects of the annual Gene Harris Jazz Festival
- Possibly teach applied lessons on your primary instrument
- Develop relationships with state and regional music educators
- Participate in Music Department governance activities and perform other duties as assigned by the Chair
At a minimum you should have:
- A doctorate in music
- Experience with various aspects of a successful jazz festival
- Teaching experience at the university and/or public school levels
The preferred candidate will have:
- The ability to provide leadership for the development of a comprehensive jazz studies program
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, including improvisation in small and large ensemble settings
- Evidence of high level musicianship in jazz performance
- Demonstrated organizational skills related to leading and developing a program in jazz
