Time Off
Holidays
Employees are paid for 10 holidays per year. The University is open for classes on Columbus Day and Veteran's Day and employees will be required to work both days. Professional staff will earn two days of compensatory time and classified staff will earn three days of compensatory time for working these two holidays. Compensatory time will be taken on the Friday after Thanksgiving Day and during the Christmas holiday.
Sick Leave
Staff shall accrue sick leave at the rate of .0462 per hour (approximately 8 hours - one day per month or 3.69 hours biweekly for full time employees). Sick leave shall accrue without limit. Employees are required to submit a timesheet or leave report form when absent. Upon retirement, one-half the value of accumulated sick leave, which was earned after July 1, 1976, with the prescribed limits of 420 hours during the first 5 years, 480 hours between 5 and 10 years, 540 hours between 10 and 15 years, and 600 hours after 15 years, shall be credited to an employee's sick leave account. These credited sums will be used to defray the cost of retiree group health premiums.
Vacation Leave - Professional Employees
Professional Staff accrue leave at the rate of .0925 per hour (approximately 16 hours - two days per month or 7.4 hours biweekly for full time employees). Vacation leave may accumulate to a total of 30 working days or 240 hours. Eligible employees are required to submit a leave report form when using accrued leave.
Vacation Leave - Classified Employees
Classified employees and temporary employees on benefits accrue annual leave based on the length of service with the State of Idaho. Listed below are the rates at which leave accrues and the maximum hours allowable:

Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA)
The federally mandated FMLA provides certain employees with up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job protected leave a year and requires group health benefits to be maintained during the leave. Boise State University will grant an eligible employee paid or unpaid leave for up to 12 weeks during a rolling 12 month period. Eligible employees must have at least 1,250 hours in a pay status in the 12 months prior to the start of the leave. All employees and/or supervisors are required to contact HRS, 426-1616, to fill out FLMA paperwork for any serious illness or injury that necessitates absence from work for 5 or more consecutive days.
